Futureproofing the 9 to 5: A workspace marrying tailored design with functionality in a new world.

The pandemic came as a clear reminder that work isn’t always tied to a specific desk. It has transformed the way we think about the physical office, and Crawford House arose as the perfect opportunity to celebrate this new sense of flexibility in the office.
For this concept, part of the brief was to design a workplace that would meet the needs of a post-covid world for a client who was in the sports news field, loved innovation and was an avid art collector.

Curated to embed elements of the client’s lifestyle within the design, we kept the palette sophisticated, subdued and masculine, but added a welcoming touch by using artwork, plants and the client’s varied collection of sports and film memorabilia.
Split into three main areas across 2300sqft, Crawford House has a working space for six people, a private meeting room and a setting for multifunctional events. Entirely clad in a light oak timber, the meeting room provides an intimate space for conference calls and even doubles up as an area for private dining events. A stylish gym setup in the main director’s space is a subtle nod to wellness and versatility, challenging the idea of a regular office. Additional rooms for directors, two of which line the south west facing façade, receive ample sunlight and allow for the rest of the workspace to be naturally lit through the use of glass partitions.
The materiality, black metal, perforated mesh, ceramic tiles and stone, produce an industrial ambiance with bespoke bronze joinery, adding a contemporary touch. Plus, the durable element of these materials ensure ease of cleaning. Health and safety is heightened through design and technology such as: sanitation stations, thermal scanning, disinfectant sprays, touchless locks, washable fabric dividers between work stations.
By modifying Crawford House in strategic ways, we have created a modern, efficient, carefully designed workplace that is a visual expression of the client’s personality – a newfound ecosystem that answers functionality and style in one fell swoop.
